IT’S ABOUT TIME MARCH 2015

I guess I really should say something new on this, so I will try and think up some things.

It's been a couple years so you know us old people forget real easy.

First (maybe) we went to Bear Dam Lake for some fishing and just to get away from home. Chuck caught the only fish, which was just big enough for bait!! The girls got to run loose tho cause we were at the end of the lake so they liked that. Of course, it rained a lot while we were there. So no pictures.

We then went to Bill Evans Lake (my favorite).  They were having 2 bass tournaments so that kinda messed up the fishing, but Chuck had a lot of fun flying his quad copter !!  Great, some pictures!!

These pictures were taken taken with a FPV camera on his quad copter.  Pretty neat uh!!!  I didn’t catch any fish but it was nice just being out .  Sometimes I fished and sometimes I read.  So enjoyable!!

Then there’s Carlsbad, NM.  Oh, yes.  To visit long time friends, Andy & Dena Graham.  We had such a good time.  Andy was the drummer for Johnny.  Well, he was just learning, but turned into one hellava drummer.  Then he started playing the mandolin and in about 7 yrs. he’s now a great mandolin player.  Johnny helped him learn to sing,  how to pick the song that fit him.  It worked.  Dena plays rhythm on the guitar and man you can dance to her playing.  And she has the most  beautiful  voice.  They make a wonderful duo!0601141957a

We went to all the places they were playing and boy, did we hear some awesome music.  Country, of course.

We all went to the Caverns (3rd time for me) 1st for Chuck!  Here’s some  pics!

We also did some geocaching.  For those that don’t know about this, it’s where you use those million $ satellites up there and put out things (weatherproof) in places and other people have to find them using a GPS.

This is just one cache.  It was under the belly.  Pretty neat uh!!!  Some are big and some are tiny.  It’s fun and you get a little exercise, too.

Then I got in touch with some of my classmates.  So good to hear from them after all these years.  Tragically, one had a stroke and passed away.  It’s still hard to accept.

Then, at the same time, my sister. Loretta, died, also.  Only that was a lot worse and I can honestly say, she didn’t have to.  But her “”religion””? stopped her from getting a blood transfusion.  Real Christians,HUH?

We did a little 4 wheeling just riding and also doing the caches.

And Dillon( my brother) found his first cache

There’s probably a lot more I could say, but this is it for now!!!

Spring & Summer Memoirs 2012

It’s been awhile, so I decided to combine everything and some may be repeats.  This probably won’t be in order, but will do the best I can.

We took in the Centennial geocache meet in Roswell, which was quite fun.  We stayed at the Elks RV park and ate over at the Lodge practically every night as they had a full menu dinner.  Really good food, also.  We actually found more caches walking the dogs ( yes, we took the girls, Fancy and Peanut, and they loved it) than any other place.  Had truck trouble so didn’t do a whole lot of running around.  Heading home, the truck decided to jump and balk so turned around and went back to Roswell.  No diesel mechanic there, but was sent to Artesia saying it was just 20 miles.  HA!!  It was 35, but hey, who’s counting.  Got there and ended up parking in their used car lot while their mechanic was at lunch.  Have you ever ate lunch in a used car parking lot?  But when he got finally got there, he had the truck fixed in an hour.  We headed back home and made it as far as Ruidoso Downs, parked in their parking lot, went in and ate, and walked out and went to bed.  Can you believe we didn’t even glance at the casino?!!!!

A while later, back to Ruidoso for their Centennial geocache meet.  We went to Carrizozo first, ( my old stomping grounds) and picked some up there and also some sight seeing.  Damn, my old school is gone and the hospital moved to Ruidoso years ago, but the park looked the same and they actually have an international airport I knew nothing about.

In Ruidoso, we got into the Little Bear fire area.  The cachers actually got split up because some of the caches were in Capitan and Carrizozo and once you left Ruidoso you couldn’t get back in.  So some went to the Valley of Fires (at Carrizozo) and some of us were in Ruidoso.  But it was still great fun.

Jake, Cindy, Chuck and I took off real early for the Centennial geocache meet in Las Cruces.  Found part of the series and will go back later for the rest.  Those one way streets will kill you.  But we had a lot of fun and enjoyed it all.

Sorry I have no pictures.  Chuck has them and I haven’t gotten them from him.

I’m now sitting up at The City of Rocks State park writing this.  This is the Third time we’ve been here.  It’s convenient as it’s close to home as we can’t stay gone too long.  The girls love it.  The first time we were here, Fancy broke her leash trying to get a lizard.  Funny!!  Just glad the rattler wasn’t near at the time.  When we saw him it was late evening and he was cool enough not to bother us.  I found the caches that are here.  Chuck already had found them.

Nothing notable on our second trip except fun and relaxation was had by all.  Well, it did rain every day while we were here.  Something we haven’t seen at home.

We took the ATV’s out behind the Florida’s and I got the geocaches that were there.  I think they were put out by Chuck. Of course, Chuck made me climb up the rocks for them.  Wasn’t that nice of him?   It  was a nice day for the ride and was the first time this summer we had a chance to ride.

Last week Jake and Cindy went with us on the ATV’s (they rode mine) and I rode with Chuck.  Got the new cache out there.

Then last Saturday Jake, Cindy and us went up the Mimbres River up to Lake Roberts and around to Pinos Altos and Sliver City geocaching.  Boy,  I am definitely not into rock climbing any more.  After a 1/4 mile hike and climbing rocks,  there was a damn rattler guarding the cache!!!!  Needless to say, we DID NOT get that one.  But we had a nice picnic under a nice shade tree and stopped at the store at Lake Roberts for ICE CREAM!!!  Had a really good time and lots of fun!!! (except for Mr. Rattler)

We usually try to go to the Moose Lodge every Friday afternoon and visit with everyone and we sometimes go play 9 ball on Sundays.  We both kinda got burned out when we were playing in the 8 ball tournament, what with all the seriousness and arguing going on.

We’ve gone out to the Am. Leg. a few times just to visit and do a little dancing.

We planted 5 tomatoe plants and are getting some off now.  Mostly the little pear tomatoes, but they sure are good.

Got Dillon to come up with his backhoe and dig out the oleanders.  They are a pain in the …..to take care of and they are poisonous, so now they are gone.Yea!!!  Yes, Dillon and Jean are doing fine.  Of course, a water line got broke and the fence got bent a little (he’s just learning how to run it, you know how that goes), but it all turned out fine with  everything put back together.

I’ve lost a couple of friends this summer, which is sad(both from the same family), but I know it’s just a part of life, even if I don’t like it.

Oh,yes, just a small note.  Pam is now managing the Nutt Bar.  We all think this is great!!!!!!

Guess that’s all for now.  If I forgot anything, well, it’s probably not important!!!

Bye and God Bless!!!

Mesilla Geocache-3-24-12

What a day!  Up at 5 and on the way by 6:30.  Jake and Cindy (CeeJay 535)  went with us and we arrived at La Iguana at about 8 for breakfast.  Got all the info and off we went.  Was doing real good, then ended up way out in the desert, thinking this can’t be right.  Of course not. We didn’t have the right co-ordinates, but figured it out.  Course this was after Jake and Chuck walked up and down a couple or more gullies and hills.  Then to add insult to injury, the car wouldn’t start.  Dead battery!  Long story short, got that taken care of and off we went back to the right places.  Course the GPS doesn’t know about one way streets and there were plenty of them so we did go in a lot of circles.  The last one put us on the wrong side of the river (Rio Grande) so we had to walk across it.  Well, it was dry.  Has been very, very dry for awhile, but very sandy, so we got a lot of good exercise, fresh air and sunshine, and had a lot of fun and good laughs, especially both times I fell down.  Yeah, graceful is not my name!!

Anyway, we had a really good time and it was the first multi-cache I had ever done and the guys (hats off to them) that figured it all out was fantastic.

Had dinner at Cracker Barrel and then home by about 8pm.

HOT CHOCOLATE EVENT

Feb. 25, 2012

We (Chuck, Cindy, Jake & I went to Las Cruces to the Hot Chocolate geocaching event and had a ball.  Got lots of exercise, met nice people and just had a great time.  Did some caches to get the hot chocolate and then a few extra, ate lunch and headed home.

Later in the event, we went to some friends anniversary  party at the Moose Lodge.  It was their 4th and !st as they were married on Feb. 29 (Leap Year) so that was pretty keen.  Nice time, long day, but nice.

PLAY TIME

It’s been awhile, but here goes.

Chuck and I did do some ATV riding and geocaching.  We went to Fort Cummings and picked up a couple of the Mormon Battalion series and it was a very rough ride but very enjoyable as the weather was nice.  We went about 40 miles round trip.

The next trip was out toward Hillsboro and a very short ride.  The “WEATHER” was not nice to us.  We about froze our ------off.  But then we stopped at the Nutt bar and got warmed up, if ya know what I mean.Tom and Susan were very helpful with this accommodation.

Also, most important, we held the first NM Centennial for geocaching of the year here in Deming.  We had a very good crowd at the Rancher’s Grill and everyone seemed to enjoy it.  I know we did.  I personally didn’t get to meet very many of the people but there will be other times.  Pictures of this event are on Chuck’s blog.

That’s all for now.  Bye, bye.

THE END OF THE YEAR

ANOTHER YEAR COME AND GONE.  IT’S HAD IT UPS AND DOWNS, AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEW YEAR.

WE LOST OUR VFW POST WHICH TO A LOT OF US IS TOTALLY HEARTBREAKING, BUT LUCKILY, WE HAVE FOUND A NEW PLACE AT THE MOOSE LODGE.  THEY HAVE MADE US ALL VERY WELCOME AND WE DEFINITELY APPRECIATE IT.

WE DIDN’T GET TO DO MUCH DUE TO THE FACT I STARTED HAVING HEALTH PROBLEMS, BUT WE DID GET IN A FEW SHORT TRIPS.

WE WENT TO SEE DON WILLIAMS AT THE INN OF THE MOUNTAIN GODS.  IT WAS A GREAT SHOW AND JUST HAPPENED TO BE THE DAY BEFORE MY BIRTHDAY, SO THAT WAS A GREAT GIFT.

MY HEALTH PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF.  WHAT I THOUGHT WAS BACK PROBLEMS TURNED AOUT TO BE A BLOCKED ARTERY IN MY RIGHT LEG.  GOT THAT FIXED THEN ENDED UP WITH A BLOOD CLOT WHICH HAD TO BE REMOVED.  NOW I AM DOING FINE AND RECOVERING VERY WELL.

I GUESS THAT’S ALL FOR NOW EXEPT:

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ONE AND ALL!!

DAY OFF

We finally took a day off from everything and did something we both enjoy!  We took the ATV’s and went geocaching.  Got what is being called the Hero’s Series, which was 100 of those little dudes!  We only got 98, but will go back later for the others.

It was a beautiful day, mid-80’s, partly cloudy, so it was a really nice ride.  Went about 40 miles round trip and stopped for a picnic lunch under the only shade for miles( a mesquite tree).  Not real shady, but what the heck, this is the desert.

Also went out to the Moose Lodge and Am. Legion and did some socializing, dancing and lifted a few.  Had a really fun time as we hadn’t been out since the VFW closed.  Enjoyed seeing some of our friends and laughed so hard I figured I’d be sore the next day, but believe it or not, I wasn’t.  Guess I could have laughed a little more, huh!!!

All for now.  More later!!!
