DAY OFF

We finally took a day off from everything and did something we both enjoy!  We took the ATV’s and went geocaching.  Got what is being called the Hero’s Series, which was 100 of those little dudes!  We only got 98, but will go back later for the others.

It was a beautiful day, mid-80’s, partly cloudy, so it was a really nice ride.  Went about 40 miles round trip and stopped for a picnic lunch under the only shade for miles( a mesquite tree).  Not real shady, but what the heck, this is the desert.

Also went out to the Moose Lodge and Am. Legion and did some socializing, dancing and lifted a few.  Had a really fun time as we hadn’t been out since the VFW closed.  Enjoyed seeing some of our friends and laughed so hard I figured I’d be sore the next day, but believe it or not, I wasn’t.  Guess I could have laughed a little more, huh!!!

All for now.  More later!!!

IN-LAW COMPANY

August 31, 2011

Well, again it's been some time since I posted anything.

I've actually had a pretty nice summer. My sister-in- laws (my deceased husband's ) , Pat and Peggy and her husband Pat, came to see me and the rest of their family. Pat lives in Washington and Peggy lives in California. It was great to see them as it has been quite a few years and we got to catch up on lots of stuff that we couldn't over the phone.

We all went to Socorro to see their oldest sister, Alice, who is in a rest home, but is doing fine. Her kids put on a great meal for all of us and we had a great time. I hadn't seen any of them in so long.

Chuck and I stayed all nite and went geocacheing. Found seven I believe. Stopped in Hatch on the way back home and of course, bought GREEN CHILI. That's a staple around here. Can't live without it.

On a sadder note, the VFW POST 1477 is closed for good. After all our hard work we still couldn't keep it open. I think it's been here since after WWI, so this is really bad, but we did our best and no one can ask for more than that.

Sorry, no pictures as I didn't ask permission to post any.

Chuck and I took a short RV trip up to Rockhound Park, just to see how the girls (2 small dogs) would handle it and am happy to say that they did quite well. So now we know if we want to go someplace they will travel alright. Maybe later, like early fall.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

FEB.11.2011

It’s been some time, but have busy, busy,BUSY, at the VFW, and time just seems to fly.

Wehad a Redneck  Mardi Gras Party at the Vee.  Boy, was that wild.  We had a lot of costumes donated to us by Wal-Mart and we bagged them up and everyone had to wear what was in the bag.  Good music and lots of fun. P2100713P2100712     The jailbird

MARCH 12,2011

This is Camp Furlong Days, reconizing the fact that the USA  whipped Poncho Villa, but have made tremendous strides to become border friends.  It seems to be working quite well.

We missed the equestrian show, where the mexican caballeros and the US ride to meet each other at the border, but made it in time to see the Folkloric Dancers and a TERRIFFIC young band.  These young people were really good.  (my opinion, you had to be young in order to do the dancing.)P3120747

ANOTHER YEAR, WOW!!!

Ring out the old bring in the new.  Well, on Dec.30, 2010 we had snow in the high desert and cold, cold, cold wind.  This is bad because we’re not used to this kind of weather even tho it happens at least once a year. HA, HA!!  We did survive and…..

This is it. 2011.  Can you believe another year is starting ?   I was just getting used to the last one!  It was a very good one and I enjoyed it.  But this year started off very , WELL…with a bang, so to speak.

We had a very nice party on New Year’s eve at the VFW Post 1477 with a wonderful band.  Now, these people play my kind of music.

Also, lots and lots of fun and laughter.  A very great way to bring in a NEW YEAR.

New Year’s Day, we had black-eyed peas at the Post.  Supposed  to bring GOOD LUCK ,so they say, and I’m willing to try anything for that.

All for now.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE AND MAY GOD BLESS!!!!!!!!!!!

A LITTLE THEN & NOW

Oct. 13, Chuck, Betty and I took off for Ruidoso to see Vince Gill at the Inn of the Mountain Gods.  Since we had time, we did some sightseeing.  I grew up at Carrizozo so the country used to be familiar to me. Not now!!

Ruidoso in the 50’s was a very small town.  Very small!  The last time I was there was '77 and it is so much more now than even then.  But we did find the Waterwheel that I remembered.

These pics were then.  The telescope is no longer there, but you could look down the valley ,etc.. for miles.  The waterwheel is well taken of and looks pretty much the same.

These are now!  I was so glad to see that they had preserved it.  This next pic was from across the street back then.  It’s no longer there.smile_thinking

Then we went out to the other end of town and found Fox Cave.  Boy, I was really disappointed.  You’ll see why!

Enough of memories!!smile_cry

We had a wonderful lunch at Schlotzsky’s with dessert from across the room at TCBY.Umm,Umm, good!!

Then on to the Vince Gill Show.  Sorry, no pics.  He put on a great performance and is really a great entertainer.  He had Gary Mule Deer open for him and this guy is on hellva Johnny Cash impersonator and comedian.  Vince called him back out during HIS performance so to me that says a lot.

Next day , we headed home and on the way Chuck did a little geocaching.  Think he got 3, not sure. Got home safely and back in the groove.  LATER!!!!!
